Addictions
You or someone you know may be experiencing the long term effect of addictions. Something that started as an experimentation, or to block out memories or emotional distress, has evolved into more than you planned for. It may be that it has grown into something that you need every day or every moment just to function normally. It may have caused you to "be in deep", loose your house, your relationship or your job.
It may be that you have told yourself numerous times that this is affecting your life or your family and know instinctively that you need to stop. It may be that your mind justifies your addiction and tells you that it’s not the right time or you can afford the cost if you just work a little harder.
Addiction occurs when someone habitually engages in an activity that has the potential to cause harm to your health and mental state. Addition can include behaviours such as drinking alcohol, using illicit or legal drugs, gambling or gaming. It is most noticeable when you feel the negative effects of your addiction but are unable to cease the activity.
The good news is that addiction of any sort can be treated, and effects lessened. You need to have reached a stage where you are ready to make the desired changes and perhaps be brave enough to look beyond the addiction to the cause. Brenda has over eight years’ experience working in addictions and can guide and support you through your journey.
