Brenda Slade, BSW/Psychotherapist

Brenda has been in Private Practice for over four years, most recently trained in Level 2 EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) predominently for PTSD and trauma.  DNMS (Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy - Ego State Therapy) is now available for adults wounded in childhood.  Brenda was formerly employed by Queensland Health as a Mental Health Clinician in North Queensland Adolescent Forensic Mental Health Services team providing mental health counselling and support to incarcerated male and female adolescents.  During this seven plus years she had secondments in Child and Youth Mental Health, Adult Forensic Mental Health Team, Homeless Health Team, Kirwan Community Care Team and Queensland Police.

 

Prior to, Brenda was employed by South Australian Health where she gained experience in Adult Mental Health, Child, Adolescent Mental Health Services, Families SA, Relationships Australia, Headspace and Division of GPs. 

 

Brenda is particularly passionate about working with people from different social circumstances whom have experienced trauma and abuse, promoting independence and self-empowerment.  Brenda has skills in multiple therapeutic interventions with her focus on self-directed interventions with the client being in control of their own care.  Promoting safe recovery is at the forefront of all interactions with the aim of assisting the client to achieve the best quality of life and the best relationships possible.

 

Brenda transitioned into Private Practice in 2019 providing mental health counselling and support and Professional Supervision.  She runs a busy private practice and is currently contracting with a number of Government and Non-Government Agencies. 

 

Access to her services can be accessed with a GP Referral to Connect to Wellbeing (Neami National) for low income earners until 30.06.2024.  Mental Health Care Plan referrals are subject to availability and an affordable Gap fee.  Services also provided to NDIS and Redress clients.
